Welcome to the eBook Library for Essential Letters and Sounds! Follow the simple steps below to get up and running, create student logins and assign homework:
1. Log in to Oxford Owl for School
If you are not already logged in, go to www.oxfordowl.co.uk and click the ‘Log in’ link at the top right of the page. Make sure the ‘Teachers’ tab is highlighted and enter your credentials.
2. Updating your school details
If your school details have not already been updated, you may need to update your academic year rollover and your year group label.
Once in Oxford Owl for School, click on your name at the top right of the page and then ‘My school’.
Use the Edit links to select the month in which your academic year rolls over, and to select the convention you use for your year group label.
3. Setting up your teacher logins for staff
If your staff don’t already have teacher logins to Oxford Owl, you will need to set them up for the staff in your school who need to access the eBook Library for Essential Letters and Sounds. You can find out how to do this here.
4. Create individual logins for your students
In order to assign eBooks to individual students, you’ll need to set up a login for each student. This can be done one student at a time, but we recommend that you create them one class at a time, using the student import process.
The usernames and passwords are automatically generated by Oxford Owl, and you can set up as many as you need.
Full instructions on how to create student logins can be found here.
5. Creating classes
Setting up classes enables you to assign homework to multiple students at a time. Classes can include students from one or more years groups, giving you the flexibility to create any number of classes or groups. Students can be in any number of classes or groups for complete flexibility.
If you’re not creating classes as part of the student import process, you can follow instructions to create classes here.
6. Assigning homework
Once your students are set up with their individual logins, you can start assigning eBooks for them to read at home. First, select the Resources tab from the eBook Library for Essential Letters and Sounds subscription page, and then follow the instructions on assigning homework here.
Students will be able to find their assigned eBooks by going to their Homework tab or by going to their eBook LIbrary.
7. Checking progress
After children have read their eBook, they can let you know what they thought of it. You’ll be able to see this in the Homework and reporting area. The eBook they have read will then sit in their own personal library, so they can revisit it at any time. Find out how to check what students have read here.
